KARL KENNA represents clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and in other aspects of intellectual property such as trademark, copyright, and entertainment law.  Mr. Kenna assists clients in developing intellectual property portfolios based on an understanding of the client's technology and business goals. His area of technical expertise includes computer architectures, software, programming languages, telecommunications, Internet and Web-based software, business methods, digital circuit simulation, optical and mechanical devices, applied materials, and chemical processes.  Mr. Kenna also has experience in litigation, opinion work, and portfolio analysis for use in licensing, mergers and acquisitions.

Education

Mr. Kenna holds a B.S. degree in Physics and Chemistry from the Dublin Institute of Technology; a Graduate Diploma in Computer Simulation from the University of Dublin at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland; an M.S. in Computer Science, also from Trinity College Dublin; and a J.D. from the University of San Francisco.

Legal Affiliations

Mr. Kenna is a member of the State Bar of California, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Prior Experience

Prior to joining the firm in 1997 as Director of Information Systems, and subsequently as an associate, Mr. Kenna was employed as a Network Administrator with Kirkpatrick & Lockhart LLP in New York (1995-1997).  Mr. Kenna has also worked as a Research Assistant in Computational Physics at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland (1993-1995), and as a Lecturer in Physics with the Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland (1990-1993).

Professional Activities

Mr. Kenna is a member of the San Francisco Intellectual Property Law Association; the National Association of Patent Practitioners; the American Chemical Society; the National Association for the Advancement of Science; and the Association of Computing Machinery.
